We offer patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials across a wide range of medical specialties. By taking part in a clinical trial, you can play a more active role in your own healthcare and help others by contributing to medical research.

Total joint arthroplasty
Preoperative Staphylococcus Aureus decolonization before total joint arthroplasty: Mupirocin vs non-antibiotic alcohol based nasal antiseptic.
Study examining two pre-operative methods aimed at reducing surgical site infections.
Inclusion criteria: Patients (male or female) between the age of 18 to 99 years old that are undergoing a total hip or knee surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center –Uptown and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Plano starting February 2019.
Exclusion criteria: Patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty for trauma. Patients undergoing revision arthroplasty for infection. Patients who are allergic to oranges. Patients who are allergic to Mupirocin.

Knee joint surface lesions
A Prospective Multicenter Open-label Randomized Controlled Trial of Agili-C™ vs. Surgical Standard of Care (SSOC) for the Treatment of Joint Surface Lesions of the Knee
Study for individuals suffering from knee pain and have been told their cartilage is injured, or suffer from mild to moderate knee arthritis or knee lesions.
Inclusion criteria: 21-75 years; Up to three treatable joint surface lesion(s), ICRS Grade III or above, on the femoral condyles and/or trochlea. Symptomatic total treatable area 1-7 cm2; Must be physically and mentally willing and able to comply with the postoperative rehabilitation protocol and scheduled clinical and radiographic visits. Signed and dated consent form. Non-responsive to physical therapy for at least three to four weeks.
Exclusion criteria: Malalignment more than eight degrees varus OR eight degrees valgus according to standing X-ray. Lack of functional remaining meniscus, at least 5mm rim at the end of the procedure. Meniscal transplantation in the past six months. Any known tumor of the index knee. Any known history of intra-articular or osseous infection of the index knee.

Shoulder arthroplasty
The Most Effective Local Infiltration Analgesic (LIA) in Reducing Overall Opioid Use and Nausea in the Acute Postoperative Period of Shoulder Arthroplasty Patients; a Prospective, Blinded, Randomized, Observational Study
Study evaluation to determine the least opioid and antiemetic intake during the acute post-operative period in shoulder arthroplasty patients.
Inclusion criteria: >18; Diagnosed shoulder arthropathy. Patients scheduled for shoulder arthroplasty.
Exclusion criteria: Prior known allergy to either one of the SOC infiltrative analgesic agents (Bupivacaine, Bupivacaine liposome or Multimodal analgesic containing Ropivacaine, Ketorolac, Epinephrine and normal saline)

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Evaluation of Resilience Affecting Postoperative Outcomes after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair
Evaluating preoperative patient resilience (defined broadly as the capacity "to bounce back or recover from stress"), as measured by the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and its correlation with postoperative outcomes.
Inclusion criteria: All adult (>18yo) patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
Exclusion criteria: Revision surgery, pregnant and non-English speaking patients.
